Malasa Elementary School in Bamban is almost an hour travel from the town proper, passing through the mountainous roads, with teachers giving education to aeta children and non-aeta. Aetas are native Filipinos who are known for their curly hairs, darker skin, and mostly not tall in height, but their creative skills are carried from one generation to another. Most of them yearned for education, thus making the Malasa Elementary School dominated by aeta children as it is the nearest school on the mountainous areas, where most aetas live. The feeding team was spearheaded by Jane Ebetner, coordinator of Team Kabsat in Bamban, Tarlac. This July Feeding, Ebetner was joined by Mrs. Rosita Anunciacion, the humble wife of Bamban Mayor Leonardo "Ding" Anunciacion, who also co-sponsored the July Lugaw Feeding Project in Bamban, Tarlac. The truck of the Anunciacions, loaded with cooked lugaw, untiring volunteers (Ailane and Rodel Wage, Nel Anunciacion, and Jane Ebetner) and Mrs. Anunciacion herself, passed through a rough road to reach the children of Malasa Elementary School.
The kids, full of smiles while they carry their respective bowls, were expecting the Feeding Team to arrive around 10 o'clock in the morning. It took the team more or less two hours to feed 240 children, excluding some adults who also enjoyed the lugaw. The teachers of the said school were very supportive to the feeding project and very thankful that their school children were chosen to be served with the said feeding project. With the assistance of the teachers, cooperation of pupils, untiring volunteers, the feeding project was able to reach Daycare pupils and Graders. PinoySignal recognizes the effort of other volunteers who need to wake up 4 o'clock in the morning to prepare the cooking of the lugaw, namely; Bonifacio Campo, Jesus Ebetner, and Julie Ebetner. The team, together with PinoySignal and Team Kabsat, share their hopes that more warmhearted donors shall continue to support this small endeavor to reach more children not only in Bamban, Tarlac, but also within the province if possible.
